Erin Betz has served seniors in Frederick County for over 15 years. Her experience with Country Meadows Retirement Community includes independent and assisted living resident services, health and wellness, facility and staff management, as well as sales and marketing. She recently accepted the role of Director of Volunteer Services with Frederick Health Hospital. She holds an Assisted Living Manager’s certification and received her Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Maryland. In addition to volunteering with SOAR’s grocery delivery program and assisting in the office, she has also supported the Alzheimer's Association, Guiding Eyes For The Blind, and The Archdiocese of Baltimore. She and her husband Joe live in Frederick and have two daughters, Samantha and Danielle.
Leigh Cadle is the Community Outreach Coordinator for 2nd Family Home Care and Support Services. As a lifelong resident of Frederick County, she’s incredibly passionate about helping senior citizens in and around the local Frederick area. Because of Leigh’s passion for helping local seniors, she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Gerontology and Aging Services to further pursue her mission to assist our elders.
As a member of the board of directors of SOAR, her focus will be advocating for seniors as they navigate the complexities of aging while promoting elder justice in the Frederick County community. She is a committee member for the organization's annual fundraising event, A Toast to the Holidays.
When Leigh isn’t focusing on her senior outreach efforts, she likes to stay physically active. She’s previously owned and operated two companies that provided fitness programs to ages 2-100. She no longer runs those businesses however, she still actively creates and implements corrective exercise programs for seniors.
Angela, a native of Florida, is a Music and Media Specialist at Calvary Weekday School in Frederick, and though she works with little ones, she hopes to help Frederick County’s seniors any way she can by serving on the SOAR board. She has served as the Director of Education at her church, and on many committees. She is a member of the Women’s Giving Circle and is currently on the Program Committee. She also enjoys volunteering for Rotary events with her husband Mark and being on FCC’s Aspire Scholarship committee. Angela has 4 children and 1 grandchild. She enjoys spending time with family, reading, and traveling.
Lindsey McCormick has many years of health care industry experience that she brings to the company. In her experience, she’s mainly focused on older adults to ensure they’re getting the health care that they deserve. Recently, Lindsey has become a passionate advocate for brain health. In February 2021, Lindsey founded the Maryland Center for Brain Health which utilizes a systemic, functional, and research backed approach to address the root causes of cognitive dysfunction. The center’s main goal is to aid clients in achieving optimal brain health and improve their quality of life. Lindsey is very excited and proud to bring this research-based protocol to the East Coast and teach people that a dementia diagnosis does not mean all hope is lost.
Lindsey is delighted to be a SOAR board member and hopes to make a difference in lives our our seniors in the community through helping through positive change.
J.D. Shuman, CFRE, joins the SOAR board with over 20 years of experience in older adult services. His past 16 years in the industry have been with Asbury, a non-profit system of older adult services including residential, assisted, and skilled nursing communities, along with pharmacy and therapy services, located in Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Tennessee. His role as Foundation President and CEO involves oversight of a $60 million foundation with $10-$12 million in annual gift revenue impacting Asbury residents and associates. In addition to his role on the SOAR board, he currently serves on the Mental Health Association Development and Marketing Committee. He has his Bachelor’s in Business Administration and is currently at work on his MBA from Mount St. Mary’s. He lives in Frederick and has two children Eve (20) and Isaiah (16). His passions include hiking, athletics, reading, and traveling.
